Organic GABA

New Mexico Tea Company
s
  • Spoon 1 tsp Per Cup
  • Kettle 180°F
  • Timer 3 Min

This Oolong, which is highly oxidized and organic, steeps a deep amber tea with a slightly sweet, mellow, and woody taste. It is grown in the Nantou County of central Taiwan at elevations between 400 and 600 meters (1312 to 1968 feet)

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is an amino acid that serves as the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain and a major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the spinal cord.

To create the GABA in the tea, the oolong is specially processed by flushing it with nitrogen during the otherwise traditional processing of an oolong tea. The GABA chemical compound has been touted as lowering stress levels, improving sleep, and reducing stress.

This is an astonishingly good tea, and worth every penny! Very easy to brew - I recommend a gaiwan - and long lasting, good for 6+ steeps. You get delicious honey and fruit aromas with a light citrusy tang, on a base of roasted caramel sweetness, plus just a bit of tannins to balance it all out. It combines my favorite qualities of oolongs and black teas. It’s the best GABA oolong I’ve ever tasted, and one of the best oolongs in general. Trust me, buy several ounces, you’ll want to share it with everyone!
