This single estate tea is from one of the finest Assam tea estates, Khongea Estate in Northeastern India. It is graded as STGFOP (Special Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe), this tea has the highest proportion of tips. The "special" means it also uses the highest quality leaves in that classification.

This is an absolutely delightful black tea. I wish I had gotten more than the sampler for this, but I will buy more of it in next month's planned purchase. Malt and honey on the nose. This is what a good black tea aroma should be. Delightful silky mouthfeel with a pleasant amount of astringency. Light sweetness carries on to the palate as does the malt and astringency. Finish is very much like a Speculoos cookie. I highly recommend this tea.

When I reach for a black tea, I want something with a full flavor, mouth-filling richness, and a bit of bitterness. Try as I might, I just can't get excited over Darjeelings...they seem so fine as to be bland. This Assam fills all my wants very well. Tea bloggers use terms like "biscuity" and "malty" to describe good Assam; I'm not sure I'll ever use those terms, but I think I can see what they mean, since Assam this good feels like food and drink at once. Totally satisfying, with or without milk & sugar.
